Speaking Out/Speaking In
NAC, 4th STAGE

Next season's 2010 - 2011 program has now been set by our Managing Artistic Director, Caitlyn Paxson

December 16, 2010 - Kim Kilpatrick, Sherri Yazdani, Mary Wiggin - Tales of Christmas Past and Present

Join us as we delve into personal stories of presents long since opened, eggnog long since drunk, and families long since reconciled (or not)! We all have a tale or two about the outrageous events that happen during the holidays: events that either make us laugh or cry. Tonight, three women share their perspectives on the madness and merriment that we all encounter at Christmas.

January 20, 2011 - Ruthanne Edward, Marie Bilodeau, Kathryn Hunt - The Warrior Queen: Chasing Boudicca

In 60 AD, London burned to the ground. The woman responsible was Boudicca, queen of the Iceni. When the Roman army forced her from her throne, flogged her, and raped her daughters, she gathered together an army to stand against them and became a legend. Tonight we explore her life through stories and poetry as three women share the ways that her bravery inspired them.

February 17, 2011 -Katherine Grier, Tom Lips, Phil Nagy - Beyond the Bounds: Outlaws and Vagabonds

From the Wild West to the forests of Britain, outlaws have always been a subject of fascination. We condemn their crimes and sing out their virtues, we turn them over to the law and hide them in our cellars. We can`t seem to decide if they`re villains or heroes. Tonight, you can decide for yourself as we share stories and songs about the outlaws that have captured our imaginations.

March 17, 20100 - Clare Muireann Murphy- On the Heels of the Hound

Join Irish scealai (myth-teller) Clare Muireann Murphy as she follows in the footsteps of Cuchulainn, the Hound of Irish mythology, to Ancient Ireland. A world of demi gods and monsters, of curses and kings, of blood and lust and betrayal. Here warriors leap with blinding frenzy, one-eyed monsters hunt the shores, and shape-shifters blur the line between this world and the ever-so-close Otherworld. Learn how fairies came from fallen gods, how broken promises can change the fate of a nation, and how great battles shaped the very earth itself.

April 21, 2011 - Jan Andrews, Jennifer Cayley - Love Stories

How love is! When happily ever after is just the beginning. Rueful and romantic, timorous and terrifying, lusty and luscious, dogged, daring, daily. Stories of the passion that is life's well spring - the passion that never does run smooth!

May 19 and 20, 2011 - Gail Anglin, Leah Sander, Daniel Kletke - My Words Fly Up: Stories from Shakespeare

The plays of William Shakespeare are some of the most recognized literary works of the English speaking world. Within these great plays, there are stories that make us laugh, stories that make us cry, and stories that inform our culture, from high art to the latest romantic comedy at the movie theatre. Tonight the tales are presented in a new way, offering fresh engagement with these well-loved stories and their author.

June 16, 2011 - Marta Singh, Alan Shain - Under the Gun: Family Stories Shot from the Barrels of History

The Bolshevik Revolution drove Alan Shain's grandfather out of the Ukraine and delivered him to New York City. The Argentinean military junta delivered Marta Singh's family from evil. These events remained shrouded in secrets and silence for many years, until two storytellers decided it was time to break the silence and show the world where their family stories and world history crossed paths.
