August Concert Details:

August 4 Jeff Gleeson, Marni Levitt & Amy Campbell:

Jeff Gleeson may be best known for his work in Ottawa's Jacob Two-Two.

From Amy's site...
When I finished up at Art School. I decided to take the songs I'd been playing in my bedroom all those years and do some open mics. I started playing with my friend Andrea Somers, and the next thing we knew we'd formed a band and were in the studio... My background is in classical piano, but I picked up the guitar when I started to hear artists like Ani Difranco, Joni Mitchell, Tracy Chapman, Patty Griffin, Shawn Colvin, the Indigo Girls...

Marni has been writing songs, singing and performing for almost 10 years. For her, the most important elements of music are the rhythm, the voice, the emotion, and the spirituality. She draws from many international and local influences in jazz, rock, folk, roots, and R'n'B. Marni performs drumming regularly in Toronto with Mutahdi and the World Drummers. She also studies and performs Gahnaian music and drumming with Drum Master Kwasi Dunyo. She practices Yoga regularly, which helps her sing with richness. Marni also explores visual art with paint and mixed media. Marni has toured in Southern Ontario and Eastern Canada. She has also studied Radio and Television Arts and is in the process of becoming a teacher.

August 5 Jody, Michael and Pat Loiselle:

Michael and Jody asked if I might host a concert with Pat. Pat has been described as "having a voice to be heard: clear, high and lonesome-like, whether it's trad blues, bluegrass or vintage rock 'n' roll." Pat is a true Bluegrass lover and he'll be bringing his dobro, mandolin, and lap steel to pleasure our ears.

August 12 Meredith Luce and Gabi

Meredith Luce and Gabrielle Merritt explore several musical genres in a program of original folk, traditional roots and classical guitar music. Gabrielle will play both classical guitar and original songs. They then join forces to play a set of duets of songs taken mainly from the Carter family songbook. Meredith will then conclude with a set of her original songs.

Over the last year, Meredith has played her blues and jazz influenced songs around the region and at the OCFF youth showcase in Guelph. Her music has drawn comparisons to Cheryl Crow and Lynn Miles. At the 2005 Ottawa Folk Festival, she will receive the Beth Ferguson Award and play at their Alt-Folk Cafe. This summer sheopened for Lynn Miles at Westfest, played at the Ottawa Fringe Festival and the Stewart Park Festival in Perth. She regularly at the Folklore Centre's open stage and was heard on their Christmas broadcast on CKCU.

Gabrielle's original songs are influenced by the folk music of the sixties, but her outstanding playing comes from years of classical guitar training. This fall, she will study classical and folk guitar as well as trumpet at York University. She has been a regular at Rasputin's open stages where she has played both classical pieces, such as the outstanding Villa Lobos study in E minor, and original folk songs. She recently played at the Chrysalis concert at Rasputin's. Gabby also plays trumpet in several bands and ensembles.

August 27 Apple Cider:

From Apple Cider:

"Apple Cider are a fiddle - acoustic guitar duo who play music spanning from the 1920's to today including: Orange Blossom Special, Maple Sugar, Bonaparte's Retreat etc. Brother-in-laws Mark Dojczman is on fiddle and Rodney Doddridge (also of Skytone) is on acoustic guitar. With Rod (a rocker at heart) in the group they occasionally veer from the traditional and throw a few Pop songs in the mix such as: The Sound Of Silence and Yesterday etc. "The Sound Of Silence" by Simon & Garfunkle in particular is very haunting."
