Hello to Gail Anglin. Wish they were webcasting your storytelling.

How nice it would be to have a Rasputin's/bookstore (a real bookstore) somewhere down here. The talent is around, but a place willing to give such talent a start would be such a positive thing. that, and i need to clear some books out of my house :)- course, I'd need to import your chocolate cake.

It reminds me of our old English pubs from Sudbury. You should expand beyond Ottawa.

Some nice comments in your guestbook, but for those who have never been there, none do you justice.

I had the honour to play there October 24th, and have no qualms in rating it at or near the top of my open stage experiences, including 15 venues in Edmonton and 7 in Saskatoon. I couldn't help but feel the place protected from the outside world for a time by a spell woven by the coming together of so many souls paying homage to the gods of music and poetry, either by speaking, singing, or listening.

Al Dunbar Edmonton, AB Canada

In Chilean Spanish “playing a dead dog” is to say, “dine and dash.” Here is my dead dog story: Honest, I completely forgot. That night I ended up talking with Arturo, and he pulled me out of here. He took me outside and hugged and kissed me, both cheeks. "Good-bye," he said and disappeared into the night. From there I proceeded to my car and drove off. It wasn’t until I was in bed that I realized I had not paid for the Gato Negro. That does it! I thought, I have ruined the reputation of all El Dorado and the Chilean old farts, people associate me with: Not only sad and melancholic, but now a cheater. What to do? What would Dean think? I was not going to call him at 2:00 am. With remorse and shame I fell asleep anyway. The next day I showed up at Rasputin’s. I interrupted a show as I crossed the room: “I came to pay for the Gato.” “What Gato?” Dean said “I did not play a dead dog, you know.” “What in the earth are you talking about?” “Here’s 30 bucks. Keep the change.” “Oh, I wasn’t worry. I knew you would come back. At least in another month."

Have you ever considered opening more of this style of cafe in Ontario or beyond? You have something truly unique in Ottawa, something I think could be created (and succeed!) in other wonderful settings in Ontario. I will be in touch!

today and it brought back memories from oh, so long ago. I remember taking guitar lessons just after you opened. (Do you still have the little house down and around the corner?) I decided that if God had meant me to play an F Chord, He would have given me longer fingers, and I gave it up. Shame on me. I'm so pleased to see that you haven't given up, though, and I hope to visit next time I'm back in Ottawa. Congratulations on your longevity and many more years of success!! Linda

Hey there! I keep wanting to drop by to the open mic nights to try out my songs and have some fun but I work evenings, so I'm still working that out. Anyway, just wanted to give my 'thumbs up' to Rasputin's as one of the great folk bastions in O-town. Everyone I know loves that place and I can't wait to be able to check it out! Cheers from Nepean!

So great to see Rasputins still helping out new songwriters and artists from the Ottawa area. Dean should get an award for all his hard work. Thanks Dean!
