Old Time Night

Beginning on Tuesday, October 21 and continuing on the third Tuesday of each month, there will be an old-time music session, hosted by Mary Gick. Mary has played old-time music for 28 years and teaches clawhammer banjo at OFC Music. The session will be a friendly get together of musicians who wish to learn and play traditional music from the Southern regions of the United States. The focus is on instrumental music. Fiddle, clawhammer banjo, mandolin, bass, and guitar players of all levels of expertise are welcome, including both experienced old-time musicians and those with no particular background but who are interested in learning about old-time music and what makes it different from bluegrass, Celtic, and Ottawa Valley styles. For more information about "What is old-time music, anyway" go to http://www.gordonbanks.com/gordon/interests/otmusic.html and http://www.oldtimemusic.com/otdef.html. To hear some clips of great old-time music by a young fiddler (together with her band on her first CD), go to http://www.utopiandesign.com/rayna/media.html.

8-11 p.m., on the third Tuesday of each month.
